I had three votes in the local election. I voted twice for Labour and once for the Greens. Why oh why did I vote Labour? Because my MP, Keith Hill, recently replied to a letter I sent him about Identity Cards and his letter was good and rather persuasive. The other reason is the card which the good people in the Streatham Labour Party sent me on May Day. It was deep crimson with a fist raised in solidarity on the front. Inside it had the lyrics of Billy Bragg’s version of the Internationale and a brief history of International Workers’ Day. That’s all it took. What can I say? I’m a cheap date. Anyway, as a result of my vote Lambeth was the only Labour gain of the local elections and I’m feeling pretty smug about that.

That soundsfasr more compeling a reason to vote Labour than mine, yes I had five personal;ly addressed letters from the Party, and a vist, and a phonecall (which I wasn’t in to take), but none as attractive as a raised red fist.
It does sound as if they are rather more Grass Roots Labour than NuLab – jolly good!
.
I think I’m in their database as ‘Old Labour’ because my partner didn’t get one, and she’s a member too. (Mind you she did give a vote to the Lib dems so maybe they’re right :-0)
I’m just jealous you got three votes. We only get one in Birmingham Ladywood. The Lib Dems won my respect but not my vote by maintaining the dying art of driving around with a wacking great tanoy on the roof of your car. The major personal trauma of this election is that that one of my cousins got elected as a Tory Councilor for Westminster.
